Initiation of an organic
ecology program in China
During a
visit of FCPAE to China, 22-26 Dec 2003, IRIT-ARI had initiated a
program on organic ecology in Gansu province, China. The program
aims at recovery of desert areas in Shiyanghe, a desertified
region in Gansu, wertern China, by organic means. Five Chinese
partners are invited to jointly carrry out the program. See

Joint
Seminar by IRIT-ARI and ASICEF Toulouse Branch
IRIT-ARI
and ASICEF Toulouse Branch held jointly a seminar on 21 September,
2003.
Mr. Wang Zi-Chang, Senior Engineer in Guizhou Academy of Forestry,
reported his one year research on "polycone type Pinus
massoniana" in IRIT-ARI. Mlle Zhu Xiao-Lin, Engineer from
INSA, presented her work on "greenhouse designed specially
for biomedicine raw material production", a result from a
practical stage in IRIT-ARI. More than 20 scholars attended this

Students invited to
participate in European awards for innovation
The European awards for innovation
will take place during the annual Innovact event, from 30
September to 2 October in Reims, France.
The aim of the award is to single out the best
European innovation project in terms of development, growth and
employment. The competition is open to students from European
universities and higher education institutes similar to France's
prestigious 'grandes écoles'.
Projects related to the development of an industrial
product or service for the self-employed or enterprises are
eligible for participation. Furthermore, projects that have
already been launched or are in the process of development can be
submitted.
The winner(s) of the competition will be
awarded with the sum of 1,500 euro and the winning project will
receive media coverage by a reputable French magazine.
The jury presiding over the awards ceremony will
include European Commissioner for Research, Philippe Busquin, and
French Minister for Research, Claudie Haigneré.
Also taking place during the Innovact conference are
a number of activities aimed at helping enterprise and innovation
projects, as well as companies, resolve financial, technological
and sales issues.

FP6 information day,
Toulouse
An information day on the Sixth Framework
Programme (FP6) will take place on 21 May in Toulouse,
France.
The focus of the event will be on the funding opportunities
for small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) under FP6.
Three workshops will take place, focusing on the following
thematicareas:
- nanotechnologies and nanosciences,
knowledge-based multifunctional materials, and
new production processes and devices;
- aeronautics and apace;
- food quality and safety.
Representatives from French national contact points (NCPs)
and the European Commission will be present to answers any queries
regarding FP6.
The event is being organised by the European information
centre and the Midi-Pyrenees Innovation Relay Centre (IRC) .
